Roller thermocouples, also known as roller surface thermocouples or roller contact thermocouples, are temperature sensors designed to measure the surface temperature of rotating objects, particularly in industrial applications. They are commonly used in various industries, including manufacturing, power generation, and aerospace.

Roller thermocouples consist of two dissimilar metal wires, usually made of different alloys such as chromel (nickel-chromium) and alumel (nickel-aluminum), which are joined together at one end to form a junction. This junction is called the hot junction. The other ends of the wires are connected to a measuring instrument or temperature controller. The temperature difference between the hot junction and the measuring instrument generates a small voltage known as the thermoelectric potential, which is proportional to the temperature difference.
